Kona Energy appoints Conrad Woodring as project director to lead next phase of growth

Kona Energy is pleased to announce the appointment of Conrad Woodring as Project Director, a key hire as the company moves up the value chain to take projects into delivery, construction, and finally operation.

Conrad brings a wealth of experience from across the global power and infrastructure sector. He joins Kona from Bechtel Enterprises, the investment and development arm of Bechtel, the multinational construction company. There he focused on deploying capital to unlock energy transition projects around the world.  Prior to Bechtel, he was at Globeleq, where he helped grow the company’s portfolio in West Africa, negotiating the first ever bankable power purchase agreement for Sierra Leone and leading the acquisition of Globeleq’s Nigeria C&I business. Earlier in his career, Conrad lived and worked on construction projects around the world, delivering major infrastructure projects including refineries, LNG facilities and power stations - that experience created the technical and project management foundation on which Conrad’s skillset is based.

Conrad Woodring, Project Director, commented:

“Kona’s mission to develop, build, own and operate strategically located energy storage projects is critical to solving well-documented grid challenges and reducing expensive renewable curtailment."

“My career has given me a Swiss army knife's worth of skills and experiences all of which are valuable to Kona's vision of moving from a pure play developer to a fully integrated developer, owner and operator of assets. That's really important - the company is moving from develop and divest to develop build own and operate. It is such an exciting time to be involved in Kona Energy.

“I’m looking forward to helping Andy and the wider team lead Kona through this next phase of growth and deliver high-quality projects that create long-term value and help to deliver the zero carbon future.”

"I am excited to bring my skills and experience to Kona and help Andy transition the company from a pure developer to a fully integrated developer, owner and operator"

Kona CEO Andy Willis added:

"Conrad’s appointment marks an exciting step forward for Kona, after what has been an incredibly positive period for the company. His combination of technical, commercial and leadership experience makes him uniquely placed to help us take our projects from development through to construction and operation.

This is a major part of our strategy to grow the business and ultimately deliver the necessary long-term benefits of battery storage that the grid so desperately needs in order to reduce such vast curtailment costs.

Welcome to the Kona team, Conrad.”
